Our History

Our History

Andy honed industry skills over almost two decades of working with his dad, Jud, in the development and building sectors. In 1997, Andy and his wife Jan founded Ammons Development Group (ADG) to add his unique vision to the family’s legacy. (Read Andy’s bio here.) ADG’s projects all reflect a keen sense of community, which is perhaps best realized in Heritage Wake Forest. Andy’s ability to bring people together — from future residents to local leaders — and incorporate their ideas into the foundation of the project helped it springboard into the thriving community that it is today.

ADG develops projects that reflect their communities and steward the land. Andy’s approach is collaborative, treating key stakeholders as part of the same shared community. He builds a framework for communities to thrive and investments to grow through constant contact with the building and real estate entities, careful adherence to architectural standards, and a commitment to building strong homeowners associations.

Close attention to detail sets ADG’s work apart. In Heritage Wake Forest, for instance, the width of the sidewalks, the architectural elements of the porches, the names of the streets, the landscaping of the mailboxes, and so much more were thoughtfully considered. It all comes together in a way that just feels like home. These are trademarks of ADG streetscapes, anchors of communities that transcend time.

ADG is interwoven with Heritage Wake Forest unlike any of its other projects. Just as families have grown in Heritage, so have Andy and Jan’s family. In realizing Andy’s vision, Jan was the behind-the-scenes backbone, and together they decided they wanted to do more for the community ADG helped bring to life, the community they call home. The couple founded The Jandy Ammons Foundation to support local nonprofits working on behalf of causes they both love, including Jan’s passion for volunteerism in public schools and city parks and trails, Andy’s love of hunting and wildlife conservation, and their shared commitment to ministry. While ADG’s work lives on, its founders are now focused on the foundation’s philanthropic effort.
